The skeleton of a wealthy girl adorned with jewellery who was buried cradling a toddler has been uncovered at a beforehand unknown Anglo-Saxon cemetery.

The dig on the web site in Scremby, Lincolnshire, was led by Willmott and Katie Hemer, from the college’s Division of Archaeology, in collaboration with Adam Daubney, the Lincolnshire Finds Liaison Officer for the Transportable Antiquities Scheme.


The cemetery was found when an area steel detectorist started to uncover a variety of Anglo-Saxon artifacts, together with copper gilded brooches, iron defend bosses and spearheads typical of these present in early Anglo-Saxon burials.
