Polish ace who severed his right forearm, and broke his leg and shoulder in 2011, could now replace struggling Brit Jolyon Palmer
FORMULA ONE is poised for one of the biggest comebacks in the sport’s history after Robert Kubica was offered the chance to test for Renault.
The 32-year-old will get behind the wheel of this year’s F1 car after two successful tests in their 2012 model.
The Pole was widely regarded as one of the best talents in F1.
But he suffered a horrific accident while taking part in a rally in 2011.
Kubica partially severed his right forearm and also broke his leg and shoulder in the high-speed smash in the Ronde di Andora rally.
He will now get the chance to show Renault’s bosses that he can still race in F1 when he takes part in the in-season test at the Hungaroring.
This will follow this weekend’s Hungarian GP.
Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul said: “The first two days of testing allowed both Robert and ourselves to gather a great amount of information.

“The upcoming session with the R.S.17 at the Hungaroring will allow us all to obtain detailed and precise data in a current car and representative conditions.
“After this test, we will carefully analyse the collected information to determine in what conditions it would be possible for Robert to return to competition in the upcoming years.”
Kubica has been identified as a possible replacement for under-pressure Brit Jolyon Palmer, who has yet to score a point this season.
Palmer is out of contract at the end of the year but there is growing speculation that he could be ditched before the season is over.
