MOSCOW — Russian opposition political leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned and hospitalized Thursday early morning, his spokesperson stated.

The 44-year-old opponent of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin felt weak on a flight back to Moscow from Tomsk, a city in Siberia, Kira Yarmysh stated on Twitter.

“The plane made an emergency landing in Omsk. Alexei has a toxic poisoning,” Yarmysh tweeted.

Navalny is stated to be unconscious and was put on a ventilator in an extensive care system. According to Yarmysh, he need to have taken in something from the tea he consumed today.

“Doctors are saying the toxin was absorbed quicker with hot liquid,” she stated, including that Navalny’s group called authorities to the health center.

The political leader remains in serious condition, Russia’s state news firm Tass reported, mentioning the chief physician at the health center.

Last year, Navalny was hurried to a health center from jail where he was serving a sentence following an administrative arrest, with what his group stated was believed poisoning. Doctors then stated he had a serious allergic attack and released him back to jail the following day.
