The ecstatic sailor proven kissing a lady in Instances Sq. celebrating the top of Second World Struggle has died. George Mendonsa was 95.

Mendonsa’s daughter, Sharon Molleur, instructed The Windfall Journal Mendonsa fell and had a seizure Sunday on the assisted dwelling facility in Middletown, Rhode Island, the place he lived along with his spouse of 70 years.

Mendonsa was proven kissing Greta Zimmer Friedman, a dental assistant in a nurse’s uniform, on Aug. 14, 1945. Referred to as V-J Day, it was the day Japan surrendered to the US.

The photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt turned one of the crucial well-known pictures of the 20th century.

It was years earlier than Mendonsa and Friedman have been confirmed to be the couple.

Friedman died in 2016 on the age of 92.

Mendonsa died two days earlier than his 96th birthday.
