SAN SALVADOR — Sara Rogel, a Salvadoran lady who invested 10 years in jail on charges of breaking the Central American nation’s severe abortion restriction when she ended her own pregnancy, is attempting to get her life back after being launched recently.

Rogel, who was sentenced to 30 years in jail, was apprehended in October 2012 after going to a medical facility with bleeding triggered by what she stated was a fall in the house. But she was prosecuted for having an abortion.

She was launched on June 8 from a prison in Zacatecoluca, 35 miles southeast of San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador.

In an interview with Reuters, Rogel stated she prepares to resume her profession.

“I seek to better myself; that is what I have planned,” she stated. “To finish my studies and have a job so I can have a good family because life outside is very difficult.”

One of her biggest desires is to be able to assist her previous jail mates.

“(Prison) is not an easy place. I know what I have experienced in that place. I know that my companions who are there are suffering, but I want to help them. They are struggling; that’s why I want to help them so that one day they can feel the peace of mind that I have felt,” she informed Reuters on Thursday.

El Salvador has among the world’s strictest restrictions on abortion. There are no exceptions, and jail sentences can extend approximately 40 years.

In current years some judgments have actually been reversed, with females launched from jail after serving parts of their long sentences.
