Two-time Olympian has signed a four-year professional deal with Mayweather after quitting Team GB last month
SAVANNAH MARSHALL has been signed to a four-year deal with Floyd Mayweather’s promotion company – after deciding the time was right to ditch Hartlepool for Las Vegas.
Two-time Olympian Marshall has become the latest female boxer to join the pro-ranks in a shock move announced today.
The 25-year-old former world amateur champion was on the verge of retiring from the sport after deciding to quit the British training squad last month.

But now she is being groomed for stardom by legendary undefeated five-weight world champion Mayweather after he snapped her up to his stable of fighters.
Marshall said: “I was in a position where I was either going to quit, or turn pro. I did worlds, Olympics, Commonwealth so I had done the lot in the amateurs, but I still love the sport and didn’t want to quit.
“I’m from Hartlepool, way up north and nothing goes on up there so it was either move to Vegas or never come out of the north-east ever again.
“I hadn’t really told anybody, only my close friends knew that I was signing with Mayweather. The first they will have known about it was with the announcement.”
Marshall will campaign at middleweight in the professional ranks, and will make the move to Vegas next month to begin her new life in the States.

But it has been such a whirlwind decision, the first time she even met Mayweather was when he announced her signing at the Gervonta Davis v Liam Walsh press conference in London today.
She added: “All the dealings we have had have been over the phone, today is the first time I have met him and the team. It’s all been surreal.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be part of this team. That press conference there, how exciting was that?
“It’s just such an amazing opportunity and I’m so grateful I’ve been given it.
“I’ve learnt already that the pro game is a completely different ball game. I just want to box the best of my ability and hope to achieve something special.”
Marshall has not fought since the Rio Olympics last year, but already her path in the pro ranks is being mapped out.
And the target will be a big-money clash with American star Claressa Shields, the two-time Olympic gold medallist who suffered her only defeat as an amateur to Marshall.
Shields turned professional last November and is one of the biggest female names in American boxing, with a grudge match between the pair likely to be a big money-spinner.
