Offredo, who rides for the Wanty team after eight years at France’s top commercial team FDJ, was out for a practice ride with two pals when the incident happened.
He said on Facebook: “Today I was the victim of an assault with a box cutter and a baseball bat during a workout with two friends… result: a broken nose, fractured rib, in a bad state and bruises all over my body.
“But beyond the physical injuries I am particularly shocked.
“I’m not angry, I’m just sad about this beautiful sport I love. I don’t want my kids to do it, too dangerous.
