PHILIPPE COUTINHO was blasted once again as he failed to deliver on the big stage for Barcelona.
The Brazilian, 26, was unimpressive yesterday as Barca fought back to draw 1-1 against Real Madrid in their Copa Del Rey semi-final first leg.
Many supporters believe his ‘performance’ at the Nou Camp was the worst he has produced since joining for £145million last January.
And the stats from last night do not make pretty reading.
He did not score or assist in the match and had 47 touches, just two of which came in Real Madrid’s box.
Coutinho failed to create a single chance, completed just 29 passes and completed one dribble in his 63 minutes before being dragged off and replaced by Lionel Messi.
Some pundits in Spain even believe the former Liverpool star is actually getting worse.
Journalist Lluis Mascaro of Sport said: “Coutinho had one of his worst games since he arrived at Barca. That is saying a lot, because he has spent months at a lamentable level.
“He practically didn’t enter in the game. And when he did it was always choosing the wrong option.
“Coutinho has been at Barca for a year now and is only getting worse. Worse and worse. Unjustifiable for a player that cost €150m. The most expensive signing, in the history of the club.
“Not even Messi’s support, [manager Ernesto] Valverde’s therapy and [president Josep Maria] Bartomeu’s advice can fix him. Nothing is working. There is no excuse. Or forgiveness.
“He must react or find an immediate exit in June. Before he becomes unsellable.”
It is a brutal assessment of the playmaker but the feelings were echoed by plenty of supporters on Twitter.
George Coombes said: “Not sure where its went wrong for him. Was excellent last season and was Brazil’s best player in the World Cup. Completely lost his way this season…”
Meanwhile, another user simply described his performance as “shambolic”.
But @Nostra_ldn delivered the best response when he said: “I would rather have bought a kebab for 160m.”
