SUPERCROSS’s biggest stars will go head to head in Las Vegas today for a $1million first prize — the largest purse in motorcycle racing.

Sin City is the host venue for the biggest boxing bouts, but there could be some punches thrown afterwards, as fireworks for the Monster Energy Cup battle spill over into the pitlane.

With the whopping prize up for grabs, American Josh Grant, thinks some of the 21 other riders could resort to dirty tricks that could lead to dangerous tactics.

And the 31-year-old from Riverside, California says he’s not afraid to come out swinging if someone else tries to push him off.

He said: “Hell yeah, there are dirty riders! You are aware of who those guys are and if they try to ride me dirty, I’ll make the point of letting them know I will be waiting for them in the next turn.

“I’ve come punching out afterwards. I’ve got to go home. I’ve got kids to take to school on Monday and if you want to chop me in the air and break my legs, then I think those are fighting words and I am ready to whip your arse.

“My team-mate is ok, he’s pretty mellow, but we have separate lives. There are a couple of other guys in the pits who I’d hang out with and go for a beer too, but not many.

“This sport is not like that. Whether it is jealously or not, it is just cut-throat. People are always trying to put their foot on the plate, that’s what it is.”

Riding on two wheels has taken its toll on Grant’s body.

He’s just recovering from knee surgery and last year has both his ankles replaced but he says that has not slowed him down or caused him to race more cautiously.

He added: “I’ve had a few injuries in the past five years, I’ve had some really good ones, and it has been a tough time getting back up, but that’s part of the battle.

“It’s built my character and taught me to have an open mind and I have put that frustration into motivation. I’ve got a family to support and I am not a guy who gives up easily.

“I’ve had surgery on my knee in August, I went and got it cleaned up, there was a lot of bone spurs floating about from injuries in the past, they had to shave some bones, but I needed to have it done before the start of the season.

“I could roll out a list of the injuries but it is part of the sport. You are going to have some big ones.

“Unfortunately, mine have been big ones that have put me off the bike for a couple of months. That’s the hard truth of it.

“I’ve had some bad ones with my knees but the worst injury in terms of surgery was having a double ankle replacement in 2016.

“I’d thrashed them for so long that I had no stability in them, so I had to have ankle replacements and that was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my life.

“I know when I am older and the arthritis kicks in, I’m going to be hating life, but hopefully there will be something for it then.”

The $1million prize is up for grabs if a rider wins all three of the 10-lap races around a custom built track at the Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

And he says he’s already planned how he’d spent the money if he lands the jackpot.

He said: “I’ve been thinking about winning the $1million. Visualising it is part of the whole process.

“What would I buy? I’d put half of it towards my kids’ education and the other half would go to paying off some of the bills I already owe! I’d like to pay off my house.”
