SERENA WILLIAMS is making her comeback to aggressive tennis on Worldwide Girls’s Day… nicely, after all she is.
The week started with the 23-time Grand Slam champion getting in on the act at an Oscars ceremony dominated by sturdy females.
She continued with a excessive society hit-and-giggle at Madison Sq. Backyard, and can flip critical tomorrow when she performs her first-round match towards Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas on the prestigious Indian Wells match.
The advert breaks throughout the Academy Awards featured the primary showings of Williams’ new Nike industrial, which sums up completely how a lot she has achieved – and why she nonetheless needs extra.
Too large, too assured, too imply, too black: all explanation why the critics and the bigots stated Serena was not “the correct of lady”.
But it surely’s the final jibe she mentions within the advert which she has lately taken a lot pleasure in demolishing.
“I’ve by no means been the correct of lady,” she says in a voice-over for the advert.
“Outsized and overconfident. Too imply if I don’t smile. Too black for my tennis whites.

HAVE SOME LOYALTY
Top Tipster Templegate’s top racing tips for Thursday, March 8
In many ways, Williams has been like any other mother, sharing problems and pictures, highs and lows, all the way through her pregnancy and throughout the early months of daughter Alexis Olympia’s life.
But no other mothers have billboards hailing them as the greatest mom of all time and showing off family photos along their route to work.
That’s what Williams’ husband, internet entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, has done to mark his wife’s return to the day job, setting up the tribute on the eastbound I-10 which will take spectators to the Indian Wells event.
In returning to work, of course, Williams is breaking another “rule” once imposed on women: you will stay home to look after the kid(s).
Unlike mothers who feel they have no choice but to return to earning a wage, however, she is worth more than £100m thanks to years of success and sponsorship deals covering cars, planes, beds, bras and everything in between.
With her husband, the founder of social network Reddit, worth a measly £6m – again, how dare she? – it’s fair to assume she’s not returning to the court because she needs the money.
In fact, Williams could make a good living out just of playing exhibition events like the Tiebreak 10s at MSG.
Yet in her two matches she showed signs that the idea she could return to the top of tennis is far from ridiculous.
There are precedents for mothers winning Grand Slam titles, most recently Kim Clijsters, who claimed three of her four Majors after giving birth to her first child in 2008.
But the supermum Williams most wants to emulate – and surpass – is Margaret Court.
In one respect, she has already beaten the Australian.
Court lost the 1971 Wimbledon final while pregnant with her first child, but Williams won the Australian Open in 2017 with little Alexis growing in her belly.
The record Serena really wants to take is Court’s all-time tally of Slam singles titles – 24 – three of which came when she was already a mum.
Equalling and then overtaking that landmark figure is what is driving Williams, 36, to return to action.
That, and the chance to stick it to those who’ve tried to put her and her fellow females down all her life.
As she says: “But I’m proving time and time again that there’s no wrong way to be a woman.”
