Raising a child these days doesn’t come cheap – nappies, food, childcare, school and hopefully in the distant future, university.

Apart from a Kardashian, few newborns have the ability to fund their own futures, unless they have a unique selling point – like the first Bachelor Australia baby.

Bachelor announces engagement on Instagram

After leaving the show just two months ago, Snezana and Sam announced their engagement Monday. Vision courtesy Network Ten.

Following the hype surrounding the announcement that Sam Wood and Snezana Markoski, possibly the public’s favourite pairing from the Channel Ten reality love show, were expecting their first child together, there was scope to turn the news into a business arrangement.

Wood and Markoski, an entrepreneurial personal trainer and a scientist respectively, reached out to a number of publications seeking the highest bidder for “a media partnership surrounding the baby news – pre- and post-pregnancy”.

“The guys would like to give one exclusive interview (with possible photo shoot) to one media partner by the end of this week,” their bid read. The lucky winner of that shoot was NW Magazine.

Part of their negotiations also included a proposition to increase their media profiles, following almost two years since they graced national television.

Their terms and conditions also included: “An ongoing partnership such as: a fortnightly column from Snezana on her pregnancy experience and answering reader’s questions, fortnightly video content with the guys giving updates on the pregnancy, preparing to be parents  and fitness tips, etc.”

Wood and Markoski are not the first, and they certainly won’t be the last, reality TV couple to turn their life events into dollar bills.

Few will forget “love rat” Blake Garvey, who starred on The Bachelor season two, going MIA following his proposal to Sam Frost on the show’s finale, and then turning up on the cover of Woman’s Day with the show’s runner-up, Louise Pillidge. Insiders said at the time it netted them close to $50,000.

While the original Bachelor couple, Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich, were shopping around their engagement and wedding earlier this year, despite the fact they were yet to get engaged.

After almost four years together and seemingly never ending questions on when he would drop to bended knee, Robards popped the question last week.

Fairfax Media have asked Sam Wood and Snezana Markoski for comment.
