The best bits from the Brownlow 2017 red carpet

The Brownlow red carpet carries a Mean Girls mystique but in 2017 the similarities to the cult movie were scary.

Every second guest appeared to be wearing pink. Which was odd as the AFL’s night of nights was held on a Monday, not on Wednesdays when we’re supposed to wear pink.

Glitz, glamour and Dusty fever

Pink, lace, block colours, baby bumps and Dustin Martin are among the favourites on this years Brownlow red carpet.

The usual red carpet Queen Bees like Rebecca Judd and Nadia Bartel were also missing in action which left the field wide open for the next generation of fashion loving players, wives and girlfriends to step up to the mark and boot a stylish major.

As stylists are becoming more popular than drinking games at the annual knees up, the fashion choices are becoming more polished than in days gone by. Despite there being were no glittering g-strings, diamante encrusted bras or Geoff Edelsten, here’s some of the best on ground and best bits from the arrivals hall.

Moana Hope and her partner Isabella Carlstrom

Mo, or “Mo Mo” as Isabella calls her, wore a custom Joe Black suit while Isabella looked like a modern day Cinderella, who would prefer to go sans shoes than in uncomfortable glass slippers, in this dusty rose Con Ilio number.

Ruby Keddie’s broad shoulders

So much could be read into the outfit of partner of Giants player Callan Ward. The all white ensemble – a nod to the suffragette movement perhaps? The power shoulders – a reference to the glass ceiling shattering evolution of the AFL which now features a new, incredibly popular women’s league? Either way, this strong, statement making silhouette by Cappellazzo Couture was refreshing to see.

The Essendon crew looking like Milan Fashion Week models

Chelsea Hewson, partner of Essendon’s Michael Hurley, went as Sharon Stone circa Basic Instinct and looked cooler than a frozen ice pick.

Meanwhile, Joe Daniher’s partner Adelle Bougis resembled Belle from Beauty and The Beast, albeit Belle after she ram-raided a Gucci store using Gaston’s horse and cart.

In reality though her sparkly number was by Melbourne designer, Jason Grech.

Sarah Roughead’s baby bump

The wife of Hawthorn legend Jarryd was more resplendent than a Botticelli classic in this beaded One Day Bridal creation. Everything about this is exquisite including her effortless top knot and the scalloped drop waist to accommodate her growing bump.

Dustin Martin forgoing designer duds to support small business

Because we don’t already love him enough he repped a local Melbourne tailor. A nice touch considering he was the odds on favourite to win the Brownlow and had every fashion house in the country begging to dress him for his night in the spotlight.
