Ladies and gents, if you haven’t seriously started planning your Melbourne Cup Carnival outfits, here are a few shortcuts to help you catch up.
At The Como, there are two stores specialising in spring racing.
The Spring Carnival Place pop-up shop has silk separates from Golden One, sunglasses by Shakaglasses Australia, bags, and millinery for rent and purchase, so you can literally pick up your entire look at the one address.
In the same centre, there is also a millinery pop-up featuring some of Australia’s best and up-and-coming hat makers, including Ana Bella Millinery.
The Como, corner Chapel Street and Toorak Road, South Yarra. Until November 11.
Golden One has silk separates for less than $120 at the Spring Carnival Place pop-up.
If you’re heading to the races but like to dress a little outside the box, then the Big Fashion Sale has Australian and international designer labels at steep discounts.
Brands include Alexander McQueen, Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney and The Row.
Collingwood Town Hall, 140 Hoddle Street, Abbotsford. Thursday-Friday 9am-7pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 10am-4pm.
The Big Fashion Sale is on this weekend.
If you get a last-minute invite to the races and have nothing to wear, Australian designer Yeojin Bae has introduced an express delivery service especially for the spring carnival.
Customers in the Melbourne CBD can have their new dress in four hours.
“We thought the service would perfect if you’re in need of a last-minute outfit or have just flown into Melbourne and your attire is not up to scratch, it’s a busy season full of long days so you want to ensure you have a look you feel great in,” Bae says.
The service costs between $20 and $30, depending on exact location.

After all this racing frivolity, everyone wants to come home, throw off the heels and slip into something cosy, like Jac + Jack’s knits and woven separates.
The sale will have past seasons’ stock, including spring 2017 and one-off samples.
9-11 Claremont Street, South Yarra. Thursday-Friday 8am-7pm, Saturday-Sunday 9am-4pm.
Jac + Jack’s knits are part of its huge warehouse sale.
Once you’re done relaxing, it may be time to repent for the over-indulging, so you’ll be needing some new exercise gear.
Lorna Jane has a huge online warehouse sale – so you have no excuse – with prices starting from $5. Tights start from $55, tanks from $20 and hoodies from $65.
Online only, while stocks last.
Repent for the sins of the spring carnival in some new gear from Lorna Jane.
Local favourite Once Was, which is celebrating signing with David Jones, is clearing out past seasons’ stock to make way for next winter (yes, already).
If you aren’t familiar with the brand, think relaxed pieces with a twist – flares with slits up the front or detachable frills are just two ways Belinda Glynn mixes things up.
212 Johnston St, Collingwood. Thursday 8am-6pm, Friday 9am-6pm, Saturday 10am-4pm.
Once Was is all about relaxed luxury with a twist.
Given the popularity of The Block, you may be feeling the need to spruce up your abode, so why not grab a new sofa, chair or accessory for up to 70 per cent off?
GlobeWest is holding a warehouse sale, with customers also going into the draw to win a $1000 voucher.
20-22 Parsons Avenue, Springvale. Thursday-Saturday 9am-4pm.
GlobeWest has up to 70 per cent off this weekend.
I must confess that prior to this week, I had no idea Louis Vuitton made perfume.
But after a quick visit to its Collins Street flagship for a “scent lesson”, I can recommend the Apogée, which the staff describe as happiness in a bottle, and the intoxicating Dans La Peau, which captures the actual scent of LV leather in a bottle.
So even if you can’t afford a bag or pair of shoes, you can smell like luxury.
To spread the word – or scent – even further, the brand is holding a two-week pop-up perfumery at Westfield Doncaster, featuring all seven scents created by master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.
And in a lovely nod to Australia, the refillable bottles were designed by Marc Newson.
To celebrate the first anniversary of the fragrance range, Louis Vuitton has also released special perfume bottle travel cases that can be customised with your initials.
Ground floor, Westfield Doncaster, corner Williamson and Doncaster roads, Doncaster. October 27-November 10. Check website for opening hours.
Louis Vuitton is popping up at Westfield Doncaster to showcase its fragrance line.
After the success of its first capsule collection, Country Road has just dropped the second range of its high-end line.
Whereas the first range was all velvets and pleats, the second range celebrates the Australian summer with vivid prints and playful separates that are just begging to be taken on a beach holiday.
The campaign was shot by photographer of the moment, Dina Broadhurst, who used her signature mixed-media style to create a fresh look for the heritage brand.
The 14 pieces are all single run, limited editions, so once they’re gone, they’re gone. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Available online and in store, while stocks last.
Country Road’s second Capsule collection is in store now.
#inthecart: cropped jackets
One thing that’s predictable about racing season is that the weather is totally unpredictable, which is where a cropped jacket comes in handy.
More structured than a bolero, it’s the kind of jacket you can throw over your dress or jumpsuit and look like you meant it.
