For many individuals, taking exams is a fairly disturbing expertise and also you don’t need different distractions whilst you’re busy answering questions. Now, think about attempting to take an examination whereas giving delivery.
That’s precisely what new mom Eunice Sibuyan went via when her water broke in the course of her Doctor’s Licensure Examination (PLE) simply final week (11 Mar). Sharing her experience in a Facebook post, Eunice explains how she managed to push through the whole ordeal and even finished the exam.
In the post, she shares how she learned she was pregnant in the middle of her hospital internship. Despite being advised to take bed rest and even considering abortion, she persevered and continued with her internship.
A week before her exam, she noticed she was 1-2 cm dilated and 60% effaced (which means the uterus is preparing for the baby’s delivery). Undaunted, Eunice continued attending her reviews and studied at home while lying down, pushing on to fulfil her lifelong ambition.
On the big day of her PLE in Manila, she had some spotting and cramps, an imminent sign of the baby’s arrival.
The night before the exam, she was woken by a popping sound. Her water had broken, the baby was coming anytime soon. Yet, she was determined to finish this last exam, so she kept quiet about her water breaking, knowing that she’d be rushed to the hospital if others knew. She did, however, ask the father to wait outside the examination hall with the things she needed for the hospital.
Throughout the exam, Eunice endured her labour pains and resisted the contractions as she answered the questions. With almost-superhuman effort, she finally managed to finish all three of her papers, keeping a stiff upper lip throughout as her friends expressed concerns about her.
She rushed out to her partner and he quickly called for assistance. Eunice ended up delivering the child in the same hospital she took her exam.
Being held back for so long, the baby was apparently quite impatient and was delivered in just 13 minutes!
The good news doesn’t end with a just beautiful baby boy, because a mere three days later, Eunice found she had passed her exams, qualifying as a licensed physician. It seemed her hard work and determination had finally paid off!
Posting pictures of her newborn son online, the post reads, “Hats off to my doctor mum! I’m not a hindrance to my mummy’s success (but) rather a blessing from up above. Mummy said I’m a risk worth taking.”
The post has gone viral, being shared over 5,600 times at the time of this article being published.
Eunice has been pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of support and congratulations online after she shared her experience. “I am speechless and grateful for the well-wishers and their warm greetings. I am also grateful for my fully supportive parents and my partner who never left my side,” she said in an interview with ABS CBN News.
“I want to thank God most of all for my success. In return, I will be a healer just like Him,” she finishes.
Well, they say nothing’s more determined than a mother’s love, and truly, that’s a pretty incredible feat. So I guess the next time you complain about a difficult exam, you can remind yourself that it can be, in fact, much worse.
