‘Ronaldo going full John Terry’

The 32-year-old sat out the second leg of El Clasico against Barcelona after being sent off in the first – but didn’t want to miss out

CRISTIANO RONALDO may have been suspended for Real Madrid’s Super Cup second leg against Barcelona – but he still joined in the celebrations.

And the world of Twitter loved it – likening it to the time John Terry appeared in full kit to celebrate Chelsea winning the Champions League despite being suspended.

Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t going to miss the opportunity of getting his hands on the silverware

Ronaldo missed the game at the Bernabeu, that Real won 2-0 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate, after getting sent off for two bookings in the first leg.

He is now sitting out a five-game ban.

But with a cap on his head and wearing his team-shirt, CR7 bounded onto the pitch to celebrate winning some early-season silverware.

Oli Greenwood wrote on Twitter that Ronaldo was “going full John Terry”, while another added that he was “pulling a low budget John Terry,” as he had “no shin pads.”

Matt Morton humorously wrote: So Ronaldo was booked for taking shirt off in the first left then does a John Terry collecting the trophy in the second”.

Duane Rollins added that Ronaldo “John Terry’d it up”,

The former Chelsea captain John Terry famously wore his full kit, including boots and shin-pads, to celebrate winning the Champions League in 2012 – despite being banned from the final.

Marco Asensio showed why he is receiving admiring glances from top European clubs with a worldie of a goal as Real Madrid brushed aside fierce rivals Barcelona to win the Super Cup.

Already 3-1 up from the first leg, the silverware was effectively secured after just four minutes thanks to a bit of brilliance from the 21-year-old.

With his team-mates hardly starting their forward runs, Asensio looked up 35-yards out and curled home a pearler that beat Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen all ends up.

Karim Benzema added a second just to add some gloss to the aggregate scoreline, as Barca boss Ernesto Valverde was left pondering how on earth they can challenge their great rivals for silverware this season.
