Wait is almost over for boxing’s richest ever fight when the pair collide in Las Vegas next Saturday in a huge showdown
CONOR MCGREGOR says Floyd Mayweather can earn his respect by fighting him in the Octagon.
The wait is almost over for the two giants of combat sport to collide when they go head-to-head in Las Vegas on Saturday 26.
McGregor, the first UFC fighter to hold title belts in two different weight divisions, will test his boxing ability against one of the greatest in Mayweather.
But the Irishman is already eyeing a rematch in more familiar surroundings.
He said: “As far as what he said on the world tour, he said he would step into the Octagon,
“If he would do that he would have my respect. Anyone that’s willing to step into a game like that where the limitations are so short, deserves respect.
“And that’s at all levels whether it’s at club level in a small hall, or a big stadium, it’s still full of fans.
“If you get into that game or any combat sport game for that matter. I’ll be here to grant him his rematch.”

But any fighting fans hoping to see the duo battle it out in UFC shouldn’t get their hopes up as Mayweather admits this fight will be his last.
McGregor, who heads into the boxing bout as an outsider, was handed a boost with the news that both fighters will scrap with 8oz gloves.
It is a dramatic U-turn by the Nevada State Commission after initially rejecting the proposal to change the 10oz gloves over “safety fears.”
In the UFC, glove size ranges from 4oz to 6oz and McGregor has requested in the past that they change the weight of the gloves for their cross-code match-up.
