Former Glamorgan greats queue up to condemn the champions’ underhanded tactics after batting for just 2.3 overs in the clash

A WELSH cricket club have caused uproar after some back-handed tactics allowed them to be crowned champions.

Carew CC faced nearest rivals Cresselly holding a 21-point advantage over their hosts heading into the top of the table showdown.

Rather than tackle the winner-takes-all battle head-on, they plumped for a “cunning” tactic to ensure they lifted the Pembroke County Cricket Club division one trophy.

After batting first, Carew opted to declare their innings after just 2.3 overs with the total on 18-1 – ensuring their opponents could NOT earn any batting or bowling bonus points.

Needless to say Cresselly won the short-lived match easily by nine wickets – finishing on 24-1 – but could only pick up 20 points, one shy of the required total.

It meant Carew won the league by a solitary point and were duly presented with the trophy.

But their tactics, although within competition rules, have won them few friends.

Former Glamorgan stars have been queuing up to condemn them.
