Jason Kenny recently received his CBE at Buckingham Palace
ONE half of Team GB’s golden couple from this summer’s games in Rio, Jason Kenny became a household name after dominating in the Velodrome.
And the champion has had an exciting 12 months after tying the knot in September with fellow cyclist Laura Kenny and has just announced they are having a baby.
And Jason Kenny recently received a CBE, along with his wife, at Buckingham Palace.
But who is the Manc flier and what do we know about the couple?
Where is he from?
A proud Mancunian, Kenny was born in Farnworth, Greater Manchester in 1988.
He went to school at nearby Mount St Joseph’s – which he visited before the 2012 London Games to praise for it’s role in turning him into an Olympian.
The young Kenny’s first taste of major track competition came when he competed in the Future Stars series in 2003 at the Manchester Velodrome.
Success led to him representing Great Britain at junior level two years later and he made his World championship bow in 2008.
But it wasn’t until 2012 that he exploded onto the scene in the London Games, setting a new world record in the team sprint alongside Chris Hoy and Philip Hindes.
He got an OBE for his performances in London and was sensational as he completed a hat-trick of gold medals this year in Rio.
In September, he tied the knot with fellow Team GB cyclist and British Olympic gold medallist Laura Kenny, previously Laura Trott.
Are Laura and Jason Kenny having a baby?
Cycling’s golden couple have sent fans into a frenzy by revealing they are expecting their first baby in a cryptic Instagram post.
Laura posted a photo of an adorable green child’s bike next to two adult ones, even accompanying the snap with a small heart.
Six times world champion Jason replied to his wife’s post on Twitter with a picture of a leaflet that featured on The Simpson’s saying “so you’ve ruined your life”.
Laura had previously said the couple did not plan on starting a family until after the 2020 Olympics.
What else do we know about him?
Like former team-mate Chris Hoy, Kenny has tried his hand at motor racing and finished on the podium at a round of the Radical European Masters at the Nürburgring in 2014.
He was nominated for Sports Personality of the Year, but lost to Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.
Kenny was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to cycling.
When did Laura and Jason Kenny get married?
The GB cyclists tied the knot in secret in September 2016.
Laura’s proud dad Adrian Trott announced the news of the ceremony at the 17th century Hilltop Country House in Cheshire on Twitter.
Four-time gold medallist Trott 24, looked gorgeous as she grinned in a beautiful white gown, while her six-time gold husband looked joyful by her side.
