Superb wrestling, knockout power in both hands and some of the best cardio in the division has helped Miocic rise the ranks.

Who is Stipe Miocic?

Miocic fulfilled his destiny of becoming UFC heavyweight champion with a stunning one-punch KO of Fabricio Werdum in Brazil last yeat to put him on top of the world.

He then knocked out Dutch fighter Alistair Overeem in the first round to make a successful defence of the belt in September.

The UFC heavyweight title has never been successfully defended more than twice in a row, and Miocic aims to not just match, but break that record in 2017.

What is Miocic’s background?

While most top-level UFC fighters operate as full-time professional athletes, Miocic splits his time between fighting and serving as an Ohio firefighter and paramedic.

Despite the additional pressure and prestige of being the UFC heavyweight champion, Miocic says he has no plans on abandoning his firefighter job in order to focus on defending his title. Both jobs mean the world to him, as he explained.

“I love what I do, both aspects – fighting and being a firefighter and paramedic,” he said.

He was born in 1982 to Croatian parents, and as a student he played baseball and wrestled before turning to MMA.
