A BRITISH motorcyclist’s spouse has advised of her devastation after “love of life” Daniel Hegarty was killed in a high-speed crash in Macau.

The Nottingham rider, 31, was killed after hitting the limitations on the skin of the circuit and dropping his crash helmet.

Following the horror incident, Hegarty’s girlfriend Lucy Draycott mentioned how “the love of my life handed away”.

Draycott took to Fb to say: “It’s with a damaged coronary heart to let you know that the love of my life handed away this morning.

“I simply want time to absorb what has occurred and would respect if folks may simply be affected person with me and anticipate contact.

Hegarty died whereas being taken to hospital following the accident on lap six at Fishermen’s Bend.

An announcement from the organisers mentioned: “The Macau Grand Prix Committee extends its deepest sympathies to the household and mates of Daniel.

“Daniel’s household and group have been contacted, and the Committee will guarantee each help is prolonged to them.”

The Topgun Racing Honda rider, who frequently competed on the Isle of Man TT, was collaborating in his second Macau GP having completed 16th final 12 months.

Fellow Brit Glenn Irwin was declared the winner with the race not being restarted after the crimson flag.

Hegarty is the primary rider to die at Macau since Portugal’s Luis Carreira was killed in qualifying in 2012.

There have been no anthems of champagne because the podium was held, with race-winner Irwin saying it was “not a celebration”.

Chatting with the BBC Irwin mentioned: “It is a very unhappy finish to what has been a profitable week.”

“The win is all irrelevant now and I wouldn’t have won the race had it gone the distance.

“It’s a tragic end to the day. That’s road racing and it’s tough. I’m still pretty new to it.”

Macau, in southern China, has been hosting the street race for cars and motorbikes since 1954.
