8. Gosling Was a Little Method
Throughout the movie, Gosling covered his child blues and used brown contact lenses since James Garner, the renowned star who played the older Noah, had brown eyes. While Gosling was really thinking about connection, Garner, who died simply one month after the movie’s release in July 2004, actually didn’t care. According to Cassavetes, Gosling approached the older thespiam about accents also, resulting in a hilariously uncomfortable discussion.
“[Ryan] states, ‘I was considering accents. There’s all type of South Carolina accents– one’s more rural’ and this and that. [Garner] goes, ‘I do not do accents, kid. They’re dumb,'” Cassavetes stated, “And [Ryan] goes, ‘OK. What about eye color? I have blue eyes. You have brown eyes.’ He states, ‘Everyone understands Jim Garner’s got brown eyes. Do what you desire, kid.’ [Ryan] states, ‘OK, I think I’ll wear contacts. What about hair?’ And he states, ‘Do whatever you desire, kid. Nice to satisfy you. See you later on.’ Ryan took a look at me and stated, ‘Shut up, do not even state a word.’ So that’s simply an example of 2 incredibly various kinds of acting designs. Both are hugely effective.”
Another example of Gosling’s technique acting going a little too far was his tip that they burn down Noah’s home as a metaphor for his sensations. “He’d come to me and say, ‘Why can’t I burn the house down?'” Cassavetes exposed, “I’d say, ‘Because I don’t even know what that means.’ And he’d say, ‘Cleansing my fire!'” Gosling’s concept didn’t make the last cut, and the stunning home is still standing in Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina.
