    A questionable statue of a huge pigeon has actually simply been put up in an Australian city. 

    The two-metre stainless-steel structure which cost £9,417 ($174,000 AUD) to construct was put outside the Rundle Mall in Adelaide on Friday.

    The city’s Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor stated she hoped it would draw in visitors to the location, 7 News reported.

    She stated: ‘It’s an excellent piece by Paul Sloan (regional artist) and I’m actually delighted that we might reveal it at a time when we’re asking ex-Adelaidians to flock house.’

    Verschoor included: ‘This exciting piece of public art will build on the existing legacy of public art across the city and will add to Adelaide’s track record as a location of culture, imagination and development.

    ‘I believe it will be a piece of art work that will draw in a great deal of viewpoints.

    ‘I really look forward to people’s response to it.’

    Not everybody shares the mayor’s interest with the brand-new bird statue entitled ‘Pigeon’.

    A regional homeowner explained the structure as ‘abhorrent’ and another included ‘as if 2020 wasn’t bad enough’ when they saw it.

    But the developer of the piece Sloan is waiting his development and stated his objective was to promote the ‘humble pigeon’.

    He stated: ‘They are the quiet witnesses of our day-to-day activities in the city, our observers from day through to night.’

    ‘Pigeon’ is the 2nd animal-inspired statue outside Rundle Mall, with the shopping center likewise house to 4 bronze pigs.
