Amazon has an interest in purchasing the Boost Mobile pre-paid cordless service if Sprint and T-Mobile choose to divest it to press through their $26.5 billion merger, a report states.

The online retail giant desires Boost so it can utilize T-Mobile’s cordless network for the next 6 years as part of a connected wholesale offer, Reuters reported Thursday.

“Amazon would also be interested in any wireless spectrum that could be divested,” Reuters reported sources as stating.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai previously this month greenlit the merger, on the condition that T-Mobile and Sprint divested Boost Mobileas well as needing them to develop out 5G in backwoods and use cordless house broadband sufficient to replace fixed-line.

Amazon’s expected interest follows reports earlier Thursday that the United States Department of Justice desires T-Mobile and Sprint to form a brand-new cordless provider.

The merger would minimize the variety of significant providers from 4 to 3, with Justice Department antitrust chief Makan Delrahim desiring 4 providers to stay for more competitors, according to Bloomberg.

T-Mobile and Sprint are the 3rd- and fourth-largest providers behind Verizon and AT&T. Should they combine, T-Mobile CEO John Legere would stay in his function.

While the FCC has actually authorized the deal, the merger still requires approval from the DOJ. Earlier this month, the DOJ was thinking about stopping the offer, and potentially needing the providers to divest cordless spectrum or other parts of their organizations.

Sprint and T-Mobile didn’t instantly react to an ask for remark. Amazon decreased to comment.
