American Airlines pilots’ union stated Thursday that they accepted a sweetened deal for a brand-new labor agreement, less than 2 weeks after a richer offer at competitor United Airlines thwarted ballot at American.

The brand-new initial arrangement consists of pay matching with United, whose pilots are on track to get about 40% raises over 4 years, and at Delta Air Lines, whose pilots authorized their agreement in March, along with other enhancements. American CEO Robert Isom recently increased the business’s deal by about $1 billion.

“We appreciate the Allied Pilots Association for its collaborative work to reach an updated agreement on a four-year contract for American’s pilots,” American stated in a declaration. “It’s a contract we’re proud of and one our pilots deserve.”

American’s pilots would begin voting on the brand-new offer in August.

The offer is the most recent in the transport market where employees are looking for, and getting, greater salaries. A lack of pilots has actually pushed unions to look for larger raises and other enhancements after the pandemic stalled settlements.

UPS and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters previously today struck an initial labor arrangement to raise spend for more than 300,000 employees, an offer that avoided a huge strike that might have rippled throughout the U.S. economy. Workers will vote on that offer next month.
