NBCUniversal Syndication Studios’ brand-new documentary Billion Dollar Babies: The True Story of the Cabbage Patch Kids assures to inform “the story you never knew,” discovering the dark side behind the precious ’90 s kids’s doll.
“Before there was Black Friday, there was the toy craze that started it all,” the brand-new trailer teases prior to revealing classic video footage of crazed moms and dads in toy shops shrieking, “I got the doll! I got the doll!”
As one analyst notes in the teaser, “The way in which people reacted in stores, this was new,” another mention, “This is a story about the worst parts of capitalism.”
But did you understand Cabbage Patch Kids developer Xavier Roberts really designed the dolls after Kentucky folk artist Martha Nelson Thomas‘ initial developments? “This nice lady created these dolls, and then this guy comes along,” renowned reporter Connie Chung describes in the trailer. “He steals the idea.”
