A coastguard opened fire on an eight-foot shark after it surrounded swimmers delighting in a dip in the sea.
A team member called Cintron, who was on shark watch on board the a US coastguard boat in Hawaii, identified the monster making a beeline for shipmates on Wednesday.Â
Cintron sprung into action to secure his associates from the long-fin mako or pelagic thresher shark, MailOnline reports.
All team members – along with a substantial inflatable unicorn – got away unharmed following the surprise encounter.
The story was informed on the United States Coast Guard Cutter Kimball Facebook page, where the team stated they will be ‘retelling the story for years’.
‘As if right out of a Hollywood movie, a 6-8 foot shark (no exaggeration) surfaced at the Rescue Door and was swimming toward 30-40 people in the water about 30 feet away,’ checked out the post.
‘It wasn’t the panic of the fourth of July scene from JAWS, once everybody understood what was occurring, they moved with a function!
‘We have centuries at sea in between everyone and nobody has actually seen or become aware of a shark really appearing throughout a swim call.
‘This goes to show why we prepare for any and everything. We just didn’t believe it would be a swim call shark attack! This is a sea story each people will be retelling for many years!’
The close shave happened when team members arranged a swim as a reward after a tough day of work, jumping into the sea together with swim fins and an inflatable unicorn.
A strategy remained in location to make sure the security of the team consisting of security briefs, a responsibility system, manned rescue station and a designated armed shark watch.
Protocols then started Cintron identified a shark in the waters headed directly for around 30 to 40 shipmates.Â
He fired a shot on top of the harmful predator and his associates rushed for security towards the Jacob’s ladder.
The shark turned away from its victim briefly however then reversed making its method towards the team members once again.  Â
Cintron opened fire once again to keep the shark from his shipmates till everybody – consisting of the inflatable unicorn – was securely out of the water, and far from the predator’s reach. Â
The just injury was a graze on a team member’s knee from his climb back on board the ship.Â
The scratch remained in the middle of a tattoo of an open set of shark’s teeth, according to the Facebook post: ‘Seriously, you can’t make this up!’
The team included a shark sighting throughout a swim call is uncommon and something none had actually ever experienced prior to.Â
