For the very first time this season, the Dallas Mavericks will play the nationwide anthem ahead of a house video game.

The Mavericks stated the anthem will play prior to Wednesday’s video game with the Atlanta Hawks at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, reversing course after the league bought groups to consist of the tune as part of the pregame routine.

“Going forward, our hope is that people will take the same passion they have for this issue and apply the same amount of energy to listen to those who feel differently than them,” owner Mark Cuban stated in a declaration soon after the league order.

The Mavericks had actually not played the nationwide anthem prior to any house video games throughout the preseason or routine season at Cuban’s instructions, a group representative verified to NBC News.

“With NBA teams now in the process of welcoming fans back into their arenas, all teams will play the national anthem in keeping with longstanding league policy,” Chief Communications Officer Mike Bass stated in a declaration Wednesday.

The statement from Bass opposed a previous declaration from NBA representative Tim Frank, who informed NBC News that “teams are permitted to run their pregame operations as they see fit.”

Though league policy needs gamers to represent the nationwide anthem, according to NBC Sports, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver hasn’t strictly implemented the guideline, permitting gamers to kneel throughout the anthem in the NBA bubble last season.
