The French style representative connected toJeffrey Epstein killed himself in prison in between patrols for vulnerable inmates, it has been claimed.

Alleged sex-trafficker Jean-Luc Brunel, 76 – accused of procuring ‘more than 1,000 women’ for the late paedophile financier – was found lifeless in his cell at notorious La Santé Prison in Paris in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Brunel, sectioned for his own safety, was awaiting trial for raping a minor.

He is believed to have hanged himself in between patrols of vulnerable inmates at the jail, one of the toughest in France, located south of the capital.

An investigation has now been launched to establish the exact cause of Brunel’s death.

Between four to six patrols are carried out on average according to prison warden trade union representative, Erwan Saoudi.

‘(Brunel) chose to carry out this act between two patrols,’ Mr Saoudi said.

‘First aid could not salvage the situation.

‘This shows that the prisoner was determined to go through with it.

‘What’s for sure is that he was alone at the time.’

Video cameras to record Brunel’s movements are not thought to have been working at the time of his death.

Epstein hanged himself in his prison cell at the Metropolitan Correction Center in Manhattan, New York, where the cameras were also out of use.

Now Brunel’s death has sparked fears for the safety of Ghislaine Maxwell, her family said.

Maxwell, 60, faces up to 65 years behind bars after being convicted of recruiting and trafficking teenage girls to be sexually abused by Epstein in December last year.

The former socialite’s brother, Ian, said of Brunel’s death: ‘It is really shocking.’

‘Another death by hanging in a high-security prison.

‘My reaction is one of total shock and bewilderment,’ he told the New York Post.

Brunel’s death comes days after Prince Andrew agreed an out-of-court settlement with accuser Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexually abusing her after meeting through Epstein and Maxwell.

Ms Giuffre has also alleged she was raped aged 16 by Brunel, who she says subjected her to a series of attacks on Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean.

She told how Epstein claimed to have slept with ‘over 1,000 women that Brunel brought in’ in September last year.

Brunel vehemently denied the claims against him.

Ms Giuffre has urged other witnesses to come forward. She tweeted on Saturday: ‘The suicide of Jean-Luc Brunel, who abused me and countless girls and young women, ends another chapter.

‘I’m disappointed that I wasn’t able to face him in a final trial to hold him accountable but gratified that I was able to testify in person last year to keep him in prison.

Now a minimum of 4 ex-models have actually waived their privacy to speak up versus Brunel, consisting of Dutch design Thysia Huisman, who states he raped her in 1991, aged 18.

She explained her ‘disappointment’ at the news of his death, tweeting: ‘This is a completely different ending without any real justice for his victims.’

The designs are being represented by lawyer Anne-Claire Le Jeune, who stated her customers have actually been left‘frustrated’

Ms Le Jeune stated: ‘Epstein and Brunel passed away in their cells and Prince Andrew has actually struck an offer.

‘All that leaves the impression there are lots of grey areas and it will be hard to get to the truth about this ring.’
