Europe set up 17.4 gigawatts of wind power capability in 2021, according to figures from market body WindEurope, a record quantity and an 18% boost compared to 2020.

Despite this, the Brussels- based company stated it was insufficient to satisfy energy and environment objectives. The European Union, which includes 27 nations, set up 11 GW in 2021, far listed below what WindEurope states is needed.

“To reach its 40% renewable energy target for 2030, the EU needs to build 30 GW of new wind a year,” Giles Dickson, the CEO of WindEurope, stated in a declaration Thursday.

Signed by the CEOs of ENERCON, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, GE Renewable Energy, Vestas, Nordex and WindEurope, the correspondence stated the EU could, to name a few things, “drive a simplification of permitting processes at national level.”

Last year, onshore setups in Europe hit 14 GW, with the overseas sector including 3.4 GW. Wind farms in Europe produced 437 terawatt-hours of electrical power, conference 15% of electrical power need in the EU and U.K.

The greatest market for overseas setup was the U.K., where 2.3 GW was set up. Sweden blazed a trail in onshore wind, with 2.1 GW coming online there.
