A federal judge on Thursday declined an effort by previous President Donald Trump to hold unique counsel Jack Smith in contempt for sending court filings in Trump’s criminal election disturbance case while the case is stopped briefly.
The order to remain the case pending Trump’s appeal of an undesirable judgment “did not clearly and unambiguously prohibit” Smith’s actions, Judge Tanya Chutkan composed in a Washington, D.C., federal court order.
