Venmo is once again brushing aside issues for its “Public by Default” personal privacy setting.

More than 25,000 Americans signed a petition asking the digital deal app to alter its default personal privacy setting from public to personal, according to a Thursday post from Mozilla, which started the project inJuly Mozilla, the designer of the Firefox internet browser, provided the signed petition to Venmo’s head office in New York previously today.

A Venmo representative stated in an e-mail that the business has no strategy to alter its personal privacy setting to “Private by Default.”

“Our poll shows that people didn’t understand that the transactions were made ‘Public by default,’ and they don’t value it the way that Venmo does,” Ashley Boyd, vice president of advocacy at Mozilla, stated in an e-mail declaration. “We thought this was a very compelling example that many products and services online don’t put user privacy on top.”

The petition follows examination of Venmo that was triggered by a scientist, who developed a Twitter bot to determine deals including drugs The bot posts your given name, picture and deal message if your Venmo settings were set to public.

Venmo discussed that user deals default to public due to the fact that Venmo sees itself as a social media network The business stated clients are provided an option to make their deal history public or personal, and it’s “enjoyable to share [information] with pals in the social world.”

“Venmo was designed for sharing experiences with your friends in today’s social world, and the newsfeed has always been a big part of this,” a Venmo representative stated in an e-mail declaration. “Our users trust us with their money and personal information, and we take this responsibility and applicable privacy laws very seriously.”
