Republican Celeste Maloy won Utah’s second Congressional District seat on Tuesday, beating Democratic stateSen Kathleen Riebe, the Associated Press reported late Tuesday.

Maloy is a fan of previous President Donald Trump who functioned as primary legal counsel for U.S.Rep Chris Stewart, whose resignation triggered an unique election in the district.

Stewart, who stepped down since his other half was ill, backed Maloy to prosper him. He represented the district, which covers Salt Lake City and rural neighborhoods in southern and western Utah, for a years.

Maloy won a three-way GOP unique election main in September, beating Trump critic and previous stateRep Becky Edwards.

Maloy dealt with a claim declaring she was disqualified to run as a Republican due to concerns with her Utah citizen registration.

Maloy did not enact the 2020 and 2022 federal elections inUtah She was residing in Virginia at the time to work for Stewart.

Her Utah citizen registration was significant non-active as an effect and the state remained in the procedure of erasing it, according to The Salt LakeTribune Maloy upgraded her Republican citizen registration a day after the unique election filing due date, according to the Tribune.

Maloy informed a Utah radio program she did not understand her registration was non-active. She stated she did not enact Utah’s past 2 federal elections since she was fretted her absentee tally would be flagged as deceptive.

“I didn’t want my absentee ballot from out of state to get flagged as a fraudulent vote,” Maloy informed KSL NewsRadio. “I didn’t want my boss to be answering any questions about my vote.”

A Utah district judge eventually tossed out the claim declaring Maloy was disqualified to run.
