The Kremlin has already refuted rumours, which first circulated on an anonymous Telegram channel, about the attack on the Russian president.
Asked whether this was accurate, spokesperson Dmitry Peskov replied with a ‘no’, Russian state media reported.
According to General SVR channel, the car the war leader was travelling in was hit by ‘a loud bang from the left front wheel followed by heavy smoke’.
The post read: ‘On the way to the residence, a few kilometers away, the first escort car was blocked by an ambulance.
‘The second escort car drove around without stopping, a sudden obstacle, and during the detour of the obstacle, the third car in which Putin was, a loud bang sounded from the left front wheel followed by heavy smoke.
‘The car with the president on board, despite the problems with control, followed the route of the leading car and despite the fact that it had to slow down, the cortege, with the exception of the previously blocked first car, reached its destination.’
General SVR claims their information comes from inside sources but Metro.co.uk has been unable to independently verify the claims.
It is also unclear when the potential assassination attempt took place and who is behind it.
Meanwhile, Olga Lautman, a senior fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis and co-host of the Kremlin File podcast stressed this is just an attempt to ‘generate panic’.
She tweeted: ‘The Putin assassination effort report is originating from the odd telegram channel that is probably run by Russian intel and has Putin dead 10 times over.
‘Be careful with spreading info that has no sources or attempts to generate panic.’
But if real, this would be at least the seventh given that Putin took power.
In May, the despot was supposedly targeted in the Caucasus– a mountainous area inhabited by Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and south-east Russia– according to the head of the Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence in Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov.
