House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif, on Thursday slammed a short-term Senate federal government financing expense– stiring more worries that a shutdown might happen– stating the procedure would not reinforce border security.

“I look at the current Senate bill that does nothing to deal with the border security. Don’t take my word for it. The governor of Massachusetts declared a state of emergency,” he informed CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” while likewise keeping in mind New York City’s increased costs on shelter for migrants.

“This is something that Democrats and Republicans want to have done,” he stated.

The Senate previously today presented a costs that would keep the federal government open throughNov 17, offering legislators more time to reach an offer on a bigger budget strategy.

McCarthy’s remarks came as legislators race to reach an arrangement on a federal government financing strategy prior to a due date this weekend. If an offer isn’t reached already, the federal government would close down, sending out ripples through the U.S. economy and capital markets.

McCarthy likewise stated he’s dealing with difficulties from House members within his own celebration as the settlements continue.

“I’ve got members who have held us up since the summer not to be able to bring our appropriation bills up. Otherwise, we probably have them all done,” he stated. “I’ve got members who will not vote to have a stopgap measure to continue to fund government. I got members who say they’ll never vote for it.”

Even still, McCarthy stated he’s confident an offer will be reached.

“At the end of the day, we will get this done.”
