The Biden administration on Thursday revealed brand-new sanctions targeting Iran’s drone program for its current attack on Israel.
The sanctions target 16 people and 2 entities associated with Tehran’s drone production. Companies associated with the nation’s steel market and offering cars to Iran’s military were likewise targeted.
“Today, in coordination with the United Kingdom and in consultation with partners and allies, we are taking swift and decisive action to respond to Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated in a declaration.
“We’re utilizing Treasury’s financial tools to break down and interrupt essential elements of Iran’s malign activity, including its [unmanned aerial vehicle] program and the income the routine creates to support its terrorism,” Yellen included.
The relocation comes as Israel weighs how to react to the attack last weekend, which Iran introduced in retaliation for an Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate in Syria previously this month.
