The employees union at Starbucks is declaring the coffee chain is closing down a just recently unionized coffee shop in retaliation for its activist efforts, Bloomberg News reported.

It’s the current escalation in between a quickly growing nationwide labor motion and the coffee giant.

Workers United, the union that’s backing arranging efforts at Starbucks, supposedly stated in a Friday filing with the National Labor Relations Board that Starbucks is breaching federal labor law by completely closing an Ithaca, New York, shop. The group declared it remained in retaliation because staff members at the area voted to unionize in April, according to the company’s Twitter account.

Starbucks stated that it opens and closes shops “as a regular part” of its operations. “Our goal is to ensure that every partner is supported in their individual situation, and we have immediate opportunities available in the market,” a Starbucks representative stated in an e-mail to CNBC.

The union is asking the company to look for a federal court injunction to rapidly avoid or reverse the shop closure, according to the report.

Around 100 Starbucks coffee shops have actually voted to unionize under Workers United, while just 14 areas have actually voted versus unionizing. Workers United revealed today it was developing a $1 million fund to cover lost spend for baristas who go on strike.

Workers United has actually submitted a minimum of 175 problems versus the coffee chain for unjust labor practices, CNBC formerly reported. Starbucks has actually rejected misbehavior.
