We then got on the phone with series developer Austin Winsberg and asked him to describe what simply took place, what it indicates and how it took place, and it ends up all of it has a lot to do with that dream series including Zoey’s papa Mitch (Peter Gallagher). Here, completely, is what he stated:
“We spent a lot of time this season and even in season one talking about the inequality in Zoey and Max’s relationship. He felt like there was something inherently unfair about the fact that she could hear his heart songs and know what’s going on in his heart and his brain, but he couldn’t do the same with her, and they had many fights and conversations about that where we’re clearly, in our minds, planting the seed for what was to come.”
“Then she has this minute in [the finale], where she has this talk with her daddy, and he discusses how he belongs to deep space now and there’s been a great deal of talk this season where Zoey’s shrieking at deep space, and ‘Why is deep space doing this to me?’ And Mitch presumes that possibly he has something to do with whatever that’s happening with her, and possibly that deep space is doing all of this for a factor. And the last thing she states prior to Max gets the power, is she discusses deep space. And then she sings him a tune. So, definitely from my point of view, part of him getting the power now is so that he might get an insight into Zoey, which for when there can really be genuine equality in their relationship.
