A Canadian union early on Tuesday extended its due date in labor talks with Ford in an effort to reach an agreement offer, even as the Detroit Three car manufacturers still deal with a different collaborated U.S. strike by the United Auto Workers union.

Canadian union Unifor, which represents about 5,600 Ford employees at 3 plants, stated after the agreement ended at 11: 59 p.m. EDT on Monday (0359 GMT on Tuesday) it got a “substantive offer” from the business and was extending the due date to reach an offer by 24 hours.

Unifor stated bargaining with Ford was continuing throughout the night and asked its members to continue to keep strike preparedness.

Ford did not react instantly to an ask for remark.

Unifor has actually been looking for enhanced earnings and pensions, in addition to assistance in the shift to electrical cars and extra financial investment dedications by Ford.

Hours previously, Unifor National President Lana Payne stated in a video published on the union’s site that Ford required to do more to fulfill members’ expectations and needs.

“If there is a strike, this will be a total strike,” she stated. “Every single one of Unifor’s 5,600 members at Ford in Canada will be on picket lines.”

The last-minute settlements were being held less than a week after the UAW introduced a U.S. strike versus Ford, General Motors and Chrysler moms and dad Stellantis, targeting one assembly plant at each business.

UAW stated it prepares to reveal on Friday more plants to strike if no severe development was made in talks with the Detroit Three car manufacturers.
