After suffering a rankings decrease for its champion series, the National Basketball Association is commemorating its most-watched opening week because 2012, led by Christmas Day contests.

The NBA, which began its reduced 72-video game season due to Covid-19 recently, stated approximately 3.4 million audiences enjoyed its video games from Dec. 22 to Dec. 25.

The Christmas Day video game in between the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers and Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks on Disney’s ABC network blazed a trail, balancing approximately 7 million audiences. On the very same day, the Miami Heat-New Orleans Pelicans video game balanced 3.5 million audiences while the Los Angeles Clippers-Denver Nuggets contest balanced 2.05 million audiences. Those video games aired on Disney’s ESPN.

Though the 2020 primetime Christmas Day contest on ABC had strong rankings, it still can be found in lower than in 2015’s Lakers-Clippers contest which had approximately 8.8 million audiences throughout ABC and ESPN platforms.

According to the NBA, the Dec. 22 opening night doubleheader on AT&T’s TNT had approximately 2.9 million audiences, making it the most-watched opening night because 2017.

Those video games included the Golden State Warriors versus the Brooklyn Nets and the Clippers versus the Lakers. The NBA stated its combined viewership throughout TNT, ESPN, and ABC for the 2020 openers was up 67% (3.4 million) compared to 2019 when the league NBA balanced 2.2 million for opening week.

The NBA informed CNBC audiences viewed 81.5 million hours of live NBA protection on nationwide media partners’ outlets. That’s up from 41.8 million hours on ESPN and TNT throughout opening week in 2019.

The NBA is banking on a bounce in rankings after the pandemic affected its 2020-19 season, requiring it to go back to a messy sports TELEVISION lineup that consisted of Major League Baseball’s postseason and World Series and National Football League video games.
