An Uber motorist was fatally stabbed in New York City on Saturday night, and authorities are looking for his opponent, the New York Times reported Sunday.
The 27-year-old motorist, Ganiou Gandonou, was discovered soon after 9 p.m. seated inside a parking area in the Bronx with stab injuries to his neck and upper body, authorities informed the paper. Police are attempting to figure out if the death was the outcome of a break-in.
Gandonou is noted in a city database as a motorist for Uber, however it wasn’t instantly clear whether he was working for the ride-hailing service at the time of the attack.
An Uber spokesperson called the attack “horribly tragic” and provided its acknowledgements to the dead motorist’s household.
“We stand ready to work with law enforcement to assist their investigation in any way possible,” he stated.
The Independent Drivers Guild, which represents more than 70,000 app-based chauffeurs in New York City, stated Sunday it’s providing a $3,000 benefit for info that causes an arrest in the killing.
